Education in Life
Büşra was the quietest student in
the class. She always got nervous when exam week came. However, the reason for
her being nervous was not getting low grades in the exam. She already knew that
she would get low grades in Mathematics or Chemistry. This is how she has been
until now. The mais problem was, after the exam, teachers would distribute the
exam papers to the students in the classroom so that they could see their
answers. Büşra would be very disturbed by this. Because her friends in the
class would always ask, "What did you answer to this question?" Oh!
The second question was very easy. I don't understand how you couldn't
answer." Of course, it’s easy to comment about that who has the highest
points in almost every exam. Before anyone could ask her these questions, she
would go to the bathroom or pretend to be sick and go home. People around Büşra did not understand
Büşra's introversion and inability to adapt, and kept repeating to her that she
should solve this as soon as possible with theese sentences; “Things will get
harder at university. What will you do then, Büşra?’’ This would scare her even
more. Years passed like this, and studying and going to school became a torture
for Büşra.
In the middle of that term, a new teacher was appointed to the school. Teacher Eda... Teacher Eda was a dynamic, cheerful and friendly person. Her eyes would shine while looking at the students in the classroom or while explaining a topic.
Teacher Eda and the students had
already bonded with each other. Angles, triangles, equations and many other
topics were covered. And the exam week that Büşra had been dreading had
arrived. She was actually in a good mood until the exam week came. The exams
were over, but the real event would begin with Teacher Eda distributing the
exam papers in the classroom. That day, Teacher Eda was reading the exam scores
and giving the exam papers to the students. Büşra was caught unprepared.
Otherwise, she would find an excuse and go home that day. She started to cry.
Teacher Eda noticed the situation and approached her and asked: "What's
the problem, Büşra?" Büşra said, "I got the lowest grade in the class
again." Teacher Eda said, “Dear Büşra, we may get low marks in the exams.
What matters is what you do after getting low grades. Also, life is not just
about exams at school and getting good scores. Our perspective on exams at
school is also reflected in our general relationships in our lives. We give you
your exam papers after the exam so that you can see where you made mistakes. A
person can only move forward in this life when he learns from his mistakes.”
Büşra had never thought of it
this way. Teacher Eda gave her the lesson of her life. Because Büşra was a girl
who was very afraid of making mistakes and that people would make fun of her
when she made a mistake. Because it was a heavy burden to carry. Even though
she received a low grade, teacher Eda's sincere, compassionate and hopeful
words encouraged her.
She gradually started to study
more. Triangles and equations were no longer a nightmare for her. During the
trials held at school, her scores gradually began to increase. However, she was
more interested in what mistakes she made, rather than how clear she was.
Because she made an effort to make up for her shortcomings in that regard and
get into the faculty she wanted. Whatever subject she could not do after the
trials, she was trying to learn that subject until the next attempt.
