Black Friday

Black Friday

While writing the weekly reports early in the office, Duygu's attention was again drawn to Leyla, who works in the Accounting Department. She was wearing a white jumper, a stylish cream-coloured skirt and brown boots. “I don't understand how she can look so stylish every day. I wonder which boutique she buys from what she wears.” said to herself.  She immediately started to research the boutiques Leyla followed on her Instagram profile. She was very excited to get new clothes.

Shopping Fairies Are Around!

Everything in Duygu’s life is about how she looks, what she wears, what others wear. She spends every penny she has on fashion and style. As well, almost all her relationships, most of her day and work are about these topics. She wakes up very early just to do her hair and wear makeup styling them with that day’s outfit. She uses every possible chance for shopping.

Here Comes The Friday!

It was November, that means Black Friday is soon enough. Duygu was waiting eagerly to buy everything she wrote in her wish-list. It was very hard for her to concentrate on work as she was very excited, during these times. Specially that the superviser warned her and the others in the office not to waste time on mobile phone. So she cheked the superviser’s office secretly before she started to shopping. Finally Friday came and Duygu started her online shopping from the first hours of the day. That’s why she went to the work tired. Everything looked like it was going well as Duygu planned, but one thing. The black leather pants that she wanted was sold out on the brand's website. When she searched, she found out that the shopping center right next to her office had her size. She found a way to leave early from work and go to the shopping mall. The store turned into a war zone in three hours. People were shopping like crazy.  She finally found the pants that she was looking for in that crowd. As soon as she picks up the pants, a woman pushed her and snatched it out of her hand. Duygu was shocked. Moments later, her Human Resources manager called her asking about the reason for leaving early. While Duygu was talking on the phone, the police came to the store because that there were two women fighting about clothes. In a sudden, everything has turned into a chaos, and was getting worse.

Confusing Shopping And Happiness

When she got home, she laid down sadly on her bed. She remembered an incident when she had experienced in California as an exchange student. There was such a big discount that people lined up outside the mall hours in advance. In fact, there was such a stampede that if you fell to the ground, you could be crushed. They called it chicken sale in USA. When the doors opened, people rushed into the mall like chicken flocking to food when bait was thrown. Now, it makes sense to call it chicken sale.

Duygu thought, "At least chicken do it for one main purpose, to live. Why does she do all this shopping? To survive? Does she really need all those trousers, sweaters, shoes, blankets, brand-new mobile phones?

Why do people buy things they don't really need just because they're cheap? Why are their wardrobes full of clothes that end up in recycling bins without the tags being removed? What makes us do this?

She just wanted to be happy, but she came home disappointed. Aren't companies doing all these discounts to make people happy? Where did she takes place in this happiness industry? She got confused thinking about all this. Maybe she should detox, not only for her meals but also for her wardrobe.
