The Most Exciting Episode!

Begüm came back tired from work, ate her dinner and started her PST time. And what’s PST? Pajamas, slippers, television... Finally, Wednesday evening had come. She was enjoying her favorite TV series with popcorn, cookies and tea. She was sprawled on her couch in front of the TV, watching the series as if she was hypnotized. The bell rang just when she was at the exciting scene. Her sister Beyza came running towards her sofa saying “Welcome, come in right away, my TV serial is playing! Beyza did not find her sister’s behavior strange. Because she had a different series every evening. Wouldn’t one get tired of following a different series every evening? Sometimes she even had the special ability to watch two series in the same evening. Finally, there was a commercial break. Begüm came out of the circle she was in and said, “Welcome! You don’t like such series, but it was the most exciting part, I’ve been waiting for this moment since last week.” 

Beyza decided to watch it with her sister to enter her world.

“Come on then, let’s watch it together.” She took a handful of corn and started snacking. 

“Well then, let me give you some tea.” said her sister. 

“Sis, what is this series about?”

“Don’t ask! This is a very different series. The plot is very interesting. The actors are very experienced, skillful actors. Now look, this woman’s mother got married for the second time. But the man fell in love with his stepdaughter. Then he ran away with her. Of course, the woman was very traumatized. When she became mentally upset, she started to put a lot of pressure on her other daughter at home. The daughter at home married the first man who showed interest in her. Then she couldn’t stand his rudeness and returned to her mother’s house. Shouldn’t the owner of their house be a mafioso? He had introduced himself as a writer, but it turned out he was a mafia!"

“Oh, okay, stop, stop! I swear, my mind has gone blank. What country are we living in? What kind of fiction is this? It is not clear who is in love with whom, who is with whom! What happens in the end? Does the woman fall in love with the mafia?

“Yeah, don’t ask. She’s in love with him. He’s so handsome.”

“So, you think liking something is a good enough reason to have a close relationship with it?”

“Isn’t it?”

“Of course not! For example, I really like this pink sweater you’re wearing. Can I buy it because I like it?”

“No, of course not!”

“Then how can I take an object or a person into my life just because I like them? 

The Experiential Design Teaching says; “Man first normalizes a falseness and then takes it into his life”.

It is actually easy to distinguish between real and fake. However, if the desires are not controlled, the real and the fake are confused.” She started to tell her sister what she had heard from the seminar she attended.

“I am shocked whichever TV series I open and look at. These TV series are not compatible with our spiritual or cultural values. They cause us to normalize the fake day by day. Moreover, don’t you think it’s strange that we watch these programs as a family, sister?”

“I don’t know, everyone watches them, so do I.”

“We watch so many absurd events that we cannot react in time anymore. How did our social structure deteriorate so much? Why can’t we be a family? How did the divorce rate increase so much? The answer is right there."

“You’re right, actually. Do you remember when we used to watch TV with my mum and dad? There were times when they would change the channel, do you remember?”

“Yes, I remember. So, why is it that now we watch the most inappropriate things with our kids?

“Because we have normalized it. But how can we spend time in the evenings? I was enjoying a TV series, Beyza, you have confused me.”

“Isn’t it time to think and analyze a little? We can think about how to make our evenings enjoyable.”

Begüm started to think about what her sister had said. She was really addicted to the series she watched. Even at work, she always thought of the series characters. As if they were real personalities. She realized that she perceived them as if they were living among us. But they were not real. Illegal activities happen in public during the day, but no one calls the police. This is not the case in reality.

We are shown husband and wife relationships that are not real. Everything is perfect, everyone is very happy, no one argues within the family. There are all kinds of resources.

On the other hand, it was strange that forbidden loves, ambitions and intrigues started to excite us. In the past, we used to get angry about these things, now we watch them and we started to say that these are the things that can happen in TV series.

She thought for a moment and realized that she was in a great illusion. 

She was comparing her life with the series. He was looking for a fun job, friends and a surprising mate like in the series. However, what she watched had no equivalent in real life. 

So, how would she get out of this illusion? How would she reach the real benchmarks that would correct her comparisons?
